SATELLITE ART
IMAGE CROSSING NUMBER 2 (THE PERFORMERS)
THE 4TH CONTEMPORARY ART FESTIVAL MOVING IMAGE NOW, MODERN ART MUSEUM TOYAMA 1989
Image Crossing No.2 is an
art expression using satel-
lite relay between Toyama
Modern Art Museum, and
Seibu Department Store,
Sougawa, Toyama. In Toyama
Modern Art Museum, two
screens are set face-to-face
between which various per-
formances are conducted.
Audiences can enter the
pathway and participate in
the performances. Although
there is only one person in
the pathway in the museum,
three people appear on the
said screens and develop
conversations. A woman
between two men, for exam-
ple, receives a telephone call
and tries to pass it through to
the men next to her. Because
she cannot hand over the
receiver, she suspects that
they are ghosts. The men on
both sides of her insist that
it is her who is a ghost and
lastly ask her to prove her
innocence. Thus the world
of virtual image is created
on the screens through the
encounter between virtual
and real image using satellite
relay between two remote
stations.
