Art to me is spiritual. This means simply
paying close attention to living. It means
being with care and quality. Trying to maintain
a deep awareness of every action and its
impact on the people and things around
me is most important in art as in life. The
more I understand my works and how they
fit into what is happening around me, the
better prepared I am to react, adapt and
improve. I have learned that the more I
examine my actions, the more I glimpse the
infinite interconnectivity among the things
surrounding me as well as the relationships
that bind my deeds with all the activity of
the universe.
Just as I can’t add a brush stroke without
considering its effect on the whole painting,
I as well try not to see my every-day actions
as independent events. In a personal quest
for real spirituality, I have begun to closely
study things and actions to find beautiful,
unexpected, and hopeful relationships.
I hope to illuminate the positive possibilities
of living carefully and thoughtfully in my work.
If my work can allow people to see beauty
and harmony where it was not expected then
I feel it is successful. I am trying to show how
people, things and actions can be organized
or reorganized to hold promise and so by
doing this, I aspire to encourage collective
spiritual progress.
I paint my works on naturally occurring
surfaces like wood and marble. Only after
I have studied the surfaces and watched
carefully for them to signal to me their hidden
imagery (much like as children we look for
shapes in the clouds) do I pick up my brushes
and begin to create. TRENDS
