Lis Engels paintings are cantillations of life
– a re-enchantment of the world opening
into cosmic meditations on aliveness, joy
and dreamlike paradise scenes of life.
She paints in oil, acryl and pastel. Her
style is expressive, poetic and imaginative
working with the creative process as
an improvisational dance opening into
the creative dimension as a meditative
and explorative practice. She uses pure
and bright colours to open into vibrating
meaning of color as abstract songs of joy
and wonder and also playing with line
and symbolic figure coming from dreams,
everyday experiences, myths and fairy
tales. In this way she is crossing traditional
borders between the abstract, the symbolic,
the fantastic and the meditative, connecting
abstract, figurative and poetic imagery.
The inspiration comes from many different
sources. Besides painting she works with
dance, meditation and research in creativity.
