Josip Rubes, a truly amazing artist, was born in the picturesque town
of Jastrebarsko, Croatia. His childhood was spent in an idyllic village
nestled near Zagreb, the vibrant capital of Croatia. From a tender age,
Rubes found himself irresistibly drawn to the world of art, nurturing
a burgeoning passion for painting that would define his life’s work.
His academic journey led him to the esteemed Arthouse College of
Visual Arts in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Here, he immersed himself in the
study of various art forms and techniques, culminating in a diploma
thesis on the influential works of Jackson Pollock, a renowned figure
in the abstract expressionist movement.
Rubes’ artistic career has been nothing short of prolific. He dedicated
himself to the exploration of the abstract style, delving into the
realms of abstract expressionism and geometric abstraction. His
body of work, spanning over 80 solo exhibitions, is a testament to his
relentless creativity and commitment to his craft. His contributions
to the art world have been recognized with numerous international
awards, underscoring his standing as a distinguished artist.
Rubes’ works are celebrated for the palpable energy, passion, and
enthusiasm they convey. Each stroke of his brush is imbued with
his desire for the painting to turn out perfectly, to evoke a pleasant
visual experience, and to stir positive emotions and optimism in the
viewer. For Rubes, each canvas is more than just a piece of art—it’s
an adventure, an exploration of shapes and colors, a journey into
the abstract world.
During the painting process, Rubes infuses each piece with a
tremendous amount of energy, passion, and enthusiasm. His hope
is that each painting will not only turn out perfectly but also evoke a
pleasant visual experience, positive emotions, and optimism. Each
canvas represents an adventure, an exploration of shapes and colors,
and a journey into the abstract world. His work is a testament to his
belief that art is not just about creating beautiful objects, but about
expressing emotions and ideas in a way that resonates with people.
