since 1965 Yuri Ostrovsky-golovash has been actively working in graphics, printmaking, book design,
commercial design, and monumental decorative design using mosaics and sgraffito. For ten years he taught at
the Kharkov Fine Arts Academy. At the present time he works primarily as a graphic artist and as a painter. His
works have been on exhibit in Israel, and he has taken part in various art competitions, including international
events in: the United states of America, Italy, and sweden. He successfully combines elements of fundamental
academicism with an ongoing personal quest and undisguised individuality. An analytical approach to
the universe and art gains the upper hand in Ostrovsky-golovash’s work, subduing the tendency toward
emotional representations of reality. His symbolic mood of the last ten years merged effortlessly into images
of constructivism and then developed further into the notion of the ‘sign-as-image’ seen in some of his most
recent artworks. Currently Yuri Ostrovsky-golovash is working on a large project devoted to Biblical themes
and based on a system of pure signs as narrative, omitting the narration that is typically associated with the
representation of the world of objects. Ostrovsky-golovash espouses a thoroughly modern artistic outlook. He
is a prolific creator and thinker who employs extraordinarily varied imagery; an assiduous innovator. The artist
himself believes that he is still far from having realized the full extent of his potential. His conception of art
univocally intersects with his creative projects, which by their essence testify to the omnipresent, truly spiritual
nature of artistic creation. (M. MInsKAYA)
