AzUMInO In eArLY sPrIng
Azumino is located near the center of Japan, and is
famous as an area for the production of Japanese horse-
radish. I painted the picture.
Azumino In early spring while on the top of the
hills that look down on the area. In the spring season of
2002, the distant mountains looked as if they had not yet
awakened from sleep. Occasionally clouds drifted by, the
sun was up, and the beautifully colored small flowers in
the flowerbed were in bloom, making a charming sight.
I am sure that the beauty of the picture comes from the
beauty of the scenery itself. It represents the scenery I
enjoyed as I stood for a while and painted the picture.
IzU-KAWAnA HArBOr In MAY
In May, the sunlight beats down on the harbor in
the early days of the summer season. Looking down
at the harbor, I painted the picture from the nearby
seashore. The sky was a deep blue and it harmonized
with the blue-color of the sea. Breathing in the abundant
clear air and watching the sightseeing boats going in and
out of the harbor, I wondered what kind of dreams they
were carrying with them. While my mind was wondering
about these things, I finished painting the picture.
