The paintings of artist Lidy de Brouwer, shows a versatility and character that was already evident in her
childhood years. she was a rebel who has always gone her own way, and still does. Painting and writing, the two
artistic expressions that interest her the most have adequately fulfilled her years, along with devoted attention
to her family and social-cultural activities. Brouwer sees her graphic artwork as an extension of the sensitive
and intimate poetry that she writes. In her art she uses a wealth of colors to express her inmost personal life
on canvas. A diversity of subjects emerge from her interests and direct environment. Her powers of observa-
tion are acute and accurate and she knows how to express artistically what she perceives and experiences
and what stirs her heart. Brouwer approaches her artwork with strength of character, relating subjects such as
peace, nature, and the human form in an interpretive manner that allows works to take on a life of their own.
Her colors are rich, sometimes daring and at the same time intimate. surrealism and figurative expression go
hand in hand on her canvases, giving the viewer much to think about. Lidy de Brouwer’s art continues to evolve
over time as she exhibits locally and internationally.
