LE TRAIT ORIENTAL
The influence of pictorial tendencies, essential
to western art: cubism, fauvism, impressionism
-whose origins lie in oriental art, is apparent in
each of his works.
The artist, Van Que, is like a sponge which
has soaked up all this history of western art by
drawing on his oriental roots. As a matter of fact,
the subjects treated: landscapes of Auvergne or
the South of France, still-lifes, resemble those of
Chinese or Japanese artists. The brushwork is
definitely oriental. This technique gives the visitor
the possibility to observe places which he knows,
through the eyes of the painter of Asian origin.
In this way, the landscapes are rediscovered.
As if the spectator were seeing that forest, that
mountain, for the first time, whilst being under
the impression of having always known it.
A consummate drawer, Van Que traces the body
of a woman with a single line.
He succeeds in capturing the outline, the
MArSEIllE VIEUX porT (TrIpTIC) general curve of the subject, to make a perfect
