a new vision and approach to everything
surrounding him; this was not accepted

               by the government.

When Leon was about 23 years old in
his town of Zhitomir, he and a few other

talented young artists had a show. Two
days later, the local government closed
the show, taking down more than half of

Leon’s paintings. Then, and only then,
they allowed the exhibit to be reopened.
               There was absolutely nothing provocative
or political in Leon’s paintings - just a
new style; a freer technique which the

               government referred to as “following
               Western influences.” Then a newspaper
               article entitled, “Vigorously Modern” was

printed in a local publication. At that 2006 USA: Leon Oks
time, Leon didn’t understand that this was
a victory of his art and talent. Only later did not want to accept this new reality.
did the artist realize that the emotions he This was a tough realization, but also a
transferred onto canvas were so strong and positive and powerful experience, which

alive, that they deeply touched those who only made the artist stronger.
