The painter Sook-Cha kim
uses n array of different media
in her paintings – oil, acrylic,
watercolor, oriental ink. Her
subject varies from land and
seascapes of flowers, still
life and figure painting. Sook-
Cha has painted for 50 years
but her brash movement
has changed within the last
twenty two years to include
both contemporary a tangible
themes.
“ Working to build one’s
worth takes time. The art is
difficult, serious and lifelong;
maximum effort is required
for success, like a planes
and ships that move toward
a destination, I feel I cannot
stray from my destination for
even a day."
Sook-Cha was born in korea,
where she began painting at
age of 5, Sook-Cha became a
registered nurse and midwife
in Seoul. While studying
anatomy and autopsy at the
Seoul National University
School of Medicine, she
earned a b.F.A. and a M.F.A.
in Oil Painting (with emphasis
in Anatomy for Art) from the
Hong-Ik University School
of Art. After immigrating
to the USA in 1973, Sook-
Cha continued her study of
oil painting at the Corcoran
School of A r t. She also
added to her experience by
copying masterpieces at the
Smithsonian Art galleries.
Sook-Cha was awarded the
gold Medal - Art Addiction
International prize (1997) at
the Most Talented Artists
Competition in Stockholm,
Sweden. She awarded the
Certificate of Merit at the 6th
International Female Artists
Art Annual Exhibition on the
Internet Art Museum 1999,
Sweden. Sook- Cha owns
a studio and a gallery in
Washington, DC.
