I was born in Stockholm with a mother devoted to religion
trying to find her ecstatic state of mind through contact with
both beautiful things on earth and in heaven. During my early
teenage, she had a period when she was quite taken by the Hindu
religion and found “the huge ecstasy” in loving particularly one
writer and master in yoga, yoganandha. She threw especially
his book into my lap: “read, read what my beloved yoganandha
is writing”. This took me into experiences trying to escape my
conscious mind through absolute concentration and meditation.
My father, on the other hand, very realistic by nature, was very
interested in history and art. He had a fancy for huge dramatic
and historical paintings and he used to take me to historical
places, art museums and art galleries. My mother also was
quite a story-teller and to different kinds of music we created
fairy-tales in my early childhood. My parents coached me to
take violin lessons and I did so for eleven years. For me it
was especially stimulating to sit in the middle of an orchestra
playing classical music. This, together with my studies in art,
culture, philosophy, civil rights and administration of states at
the university, has had a great impact on my paintings.
