Wolff, born in brazil, has been living in Israel for over 30 years. In her works,
she interlaces the heritage of her country of birth with her impressions
of Israel. Wolff works with different mediums and techniques: painting,
photography and installation. As master artisan Wolff weaves beads
of different textures and colors. Her painting series, derive from each
other, and correspond with each other, truthfully communicating her
changing feelings and emotions. All works are characterized by ultimate
sincerity, direct expression, plentitude, and the need to paint in detail
and create new worlds. This plentitude, meticulousness, attention to
details and expressivity –"painting brush game" (a term used by the
artist), is manifested in her painting series: landscapes, birds, vessels,
Flowers, Trunks, Trees and Thicket. In addition to these, Wolff also creates
installations. Wolff paints in series, in which she reacts to occurrences in
her life. The series come in different periods, with some themes returning,
after intermissions, in enriched variations. The changes of themes can be
compared to changes in subjects of books written by a writer during his
life. The themes change, but the writing hand, or in Suly's case, the painting
hand and the soul behind it are the same. The peaceful, colorful works
conceal a world laden with emotions and urges, pains and transcendence.
Suly says: "nature and flowers seem friendly and beautiful, but they conceal
the pain and suffering which gave birth to them". She believes in art as
a form of catharsis. The color red, common in her works, has profound
meaning, and suggests blood, struggles, war, etc. Each color has a unique
meaning, and its own effect on its environment. In her paintings Wolff mixes
the past and the present, the local and the global, to one artistic whole.
