in the Romantic era. Influenced by german Expressionists and by contem-
porary artists such as Marlene Dumas and Michael Borremans she applies
a powerful palette full of sensuous colors. She conceives the human face
and body as a pretext in order to refer to difficult situations of life such as
absence, loss, memory, death, alienation, threat, preoccupation of survival
or impossibility and she insists, through her work, upon a decent purpose
of human existence. vali up to now has participated at seven individual and
four shared exhibitions in Brussels, Athens, New Delhi and New York. Articles
in the newspapers have shown her work. Several of vali’s paintings belong
to private collections in Europe and abroad.

The human form and figure with it’s diversity of gestures and emotions is
greek painter vali kolotourou’s primary subject and theme. working on
oil, linen and wood vali’s paintings express, through powerful colors, vivid
emotions based upon daily life and existence. vali explores, in this sense,
the internal density of human feelings and situations which may influence
purpose of life and destination. Her work is an intimate study of silence and
of human truth. vali paints between visual perception and concept. It is
this concept which transforms her subjects-man, woman, crowd, group of
people-into an object with existence of itself. Paintings are done after live
model or photos found in newspapers or magazines. when painted all models
lose their frame of reference and become products of artistic imagination.
Paintings become in vali’s case a projection of her persona as was the case
