Born in Deocriste, viana, Portugal. In 1967, Pintomeira abandons his formation
in architecture and, opting for painting, leaves to Lisbon where he frequents
a collective studio in Mouraria. During this time, in Lisbon, he meets some
surrealist painters (Cesariny, Cruzeiro Seixas, Raul Perez) who influenced him
on choosing surrealism as his first plastic expression. Following a short stay
in Africa, guiné, he leaves in 1972 to Paris together with Dutch painter M. De
Hartog. In 1973 he settles down in Amsterdam, Netherlands, where he studies
painting and filmmaking. In 1978, Pintomeira finishes his surrealist period
with participation at the Salon Metamorphoses in honor of René Magritte
at the grand Palais of Paris and with a successful solo show at the galerie
Entremonde also in Paris. Living in Amsterdam (1973-2006), he takes influences
from group COBRA (acronym of Copenhagen, Brussels and Amsterdam) which
includes names as karel Apel, Corneille and Asger John. In 2007 he returns
to Portugal where he continues his career in painting and photography.


