Ana Aragüés-Palacio was born in zaragoza, spain, where she studied music and engraving. Later on she
settled in Barcelona as a student of Interior Architecture and followed up her engraving studies. during a long
stay in Urbino and Venice she received a graphic experimental and Classic Arts degree. As an artist, she has
participated in numerous individual and collective exhibitions in spain and internationally. As well, she has
exhibited her artwork at Bi-Annual graphic Art fairs in europe, north America, and south America. Aragüés-
Palacio says: “My work has developed mainly through the artistic activities of painting and engraving with
incipient excursions in sculpture and design. Figurative images appear and disappear throughout my work.
Often the initial idea for a piece of work originates in the real world, later to be sketched and hidden by shaded
colored areas and by textured surfaces. Long ago the human figure was the agglutinating element of my pain-
ting; it was the main object, and around it the special composition was created. In the last few years, however,
abstraction has become predominant, though in a small way certain precise dispositions of the figure still
remain as elements of the work, elements that organize and resolve my work. Throughout my life I have used a
wide range of colors on my palette. even in my first works, notwithstanding the technical difficulties, I could not
imagine creating a white and black engraving, so there is always a spot of color added. I have always preferred
the primary colors rather than the complementary ones, but I use the whole spectrum of hues, according to
my state of mind and mood.”
