• Royaltys: In general, royalty rates for book sales can range from 5% to 25%, depending
on the format of the book (hardcover, paperback, eBook, etc.).
For example, a publiher- author might earn 7.5% royalties on every book sold and 25%
on every eBook sold. Some contracts include graduated royalties, where the royalty rate
increases after a certain number of copies have been sold.
It’s also worth noting that the selling price of book rights can vary. For instance, options for
movie and TV rights can start at $500 and go up, with $5,000 being considered excellent in
today’s market.
However, as with MOT Publishing, the value of book rights can vary greatly.
