A TREMENdOuS
LIFE FORcE
“I never repeat myself. Even if I
paint the same subject several times,
it will always be different; because
I believe that in Art and in culture,
the riches lie in the difference”.
Never the same. The phrase sums up
Van Que’s obsession: the refusal of
uniformity in style and technique.
Hundreds of canvases and
watercolours attest an astonishing
profusion, expressing itself in
the abundance of creation, as in
its diversity. Paradoxically : this
Narcissus, who loves to probe
the finished work at length, does
not seek his reflection in it. Any
claims to authorship or trademark
are of no interest to him.
True creation implies a constant
calling into question of savoir-
faire. There is, however, a common
denominator to each of Van Que’s
pictures. It is their tremendous life
force.
