often beyond our awareness. The esteem
for The Mystery has already disappeared in
our culture. We do not even try to imagine
the existence of the Reality beyond the
       dimension of usefulness. Our consumptive
civilisation denies the ,,pure spirits”, existing
for their own beaut y and light only. As
       u s ele s s is reje c t e d eve r y t hing , w hich
belongs to the intimate, emotional sphere.
There are the mat ters existing behind
,,the screen” usually, intimate, difficult to
       manifest, but still - real.

They relate both to the divine and human
affairs and have a common point, defined
as a ,,Sacrum” sphere. Discussing with
Barbara Pałka her ,,Screens” I immediately
       recalled some phenomenon, present both
in religion and culture. It is shortly and
precisely defined as the ,,Vorhang” in the
German culture. The Vorhang is a screen
playing a role of a curtain. It is something
in front of something else. In the religious
art of the Middle Ages the curtain played an
       important mysthagogical role. It expressed
the ontologic al problems. T he cur t ain
formed a membrane between the visible and
invisible world. In front of the curtain the
Middle Ages Art placed the figures that were
only the shadows of the future affairs. The
curtain was then a barrier to all theological
       and intellectual simplifications. It was
materialising the essence of the Mystery.
Only due to the curtain the figures located
at its front were gaining the deeper sense.
