THE SCREENS II
The new direction of the creative explorations
of Barbara Pałka - Winek is determined by a
combination of the soft painting matter with
the pronounced form of its plane. Having
dealt with the figurative painting for quite
a long time, the painter left however a free
margin for the interpretation of her works.
It has been a kind of self-protection against
the easy trivialisation of the painting form.
Avoiding the literal interpretation she has
preserved her painting from the reduction of
the internal artist’s experience to a signature
at the bottom of the picture. How often such
a signature limits all attempts to find out the
complex spiritual processes accompanying
the creation. The art of Barbara Pałka -
Winek has many meanings. Her painting
is a compromise between the illustrative
art and the abstraction. The result of this
compromise is the series of paintings, called
,,The Screens” by the author.
The present analysis is an attempt to find
a broader philosophical and theological
context for ,,The Screens”. The brightness
of the painting matter, achieved by using
the method of glazing is unexpectedly
composed with the impenetrable planes of
,,likely figures”.
The picture becomes a discourse between
the visible - named and impenetrable -
mysterious, but also very capacious. This,
what seems to us to be impenetrable is most
