Maria Teresa Guala: Exploring the Intimate Balance
In the delicate interplay between line and color resides the profound
pictorial journey of Maria Teresa Guala. Her artistic expression weaves
together abstraction, spirituality, and a profound critique of existence,
resulting in a spontaneous expressionism that hovers between
contemporary relevance and ancient echoes. Inspired by Outsider Art,
Guala’s forms evoke enigmatic entities - transmuted into instinctive
aesthetic conduits. These signs, with a primordial essence, unfold
within a cultivated two-dimensional realm - a tapestry of interwoven
layers, hermetic visual perceptions, and overlapping narratives.
The artist wields her brush with an impetuous force, transcending
rigidity and conventional structures, allowing her work to flow freely
into a spontaneous dimension of pictorial expression. A luminous
aura suffuses her canvases - an illumination animated by fervent
gestures. Restless and feverish, these material and allegorical signs
generate synthetic, vibrant sequences that resonate with sensitivity.
Guala’s deliberate choice of the two-dimensional stroke transcends
mere naturalistic representation; it seeks, instead, the essence of
autonomous drives - the very core of figuration’s absolute freedom.
