I have spent the last ten years experimenting
with a number of drawing styles and taught
myself how to replicate many techniques,
using oils, charcoal and ink.
Now I work as a commercial Illustrator on
advertising and editorial illustration.
In 2001 I graduated with a Masters in
Communication Design from Manchester
Metropolitan University; I have now
received awards from Communication
Arts,
American Illustration, Best 200 Illustrators
and my work has also been published in
Computer Arts Projects.
My work covers a broad range of topics
and stories, though I try not to limit myself
to working with only one process. I believe
that it’s important to stay faithful to a
style…how else will work be recognized?
By combining charcoal drawings with
digital effects, I have created my own
style that is not only visually unique
but versatile and interesting. My style
combines many aspects of traditional and
modern artistic media. I use bright colors
on dark scratched backgrounds to create
an intriguing contrast of old and new and
it can be used to make almost any image
at any time.
To me, art is like a relationship. It’s
emotional, personal and testing, and
unfortunately it doesn’t always last very
long. But when the moment is perfect it
needs to be captured and explored. I tend
to be given subject matter from which to
base my work but I am forever looking for
new and exciting material from which to
forge more and more creative imagery.
