of Babylon; it is symbolic of complex hedonistic society that becomes
unwieldy and top heavy when it’s desire for power and dominion over
the physical plane of existence supersedes the importance of the
cultural and spiritual aspects of a great civilization.
“Queen Nutt - Mother of the Universe & the Leviathan” 16”x 24”
original oil study: in the second portal or side two of the stabile, queen
Nutt, the Egyptian Mother of the Universe, is represented by the star
filled figure arched over the portal in the light of a waning moon. In
the foreground we see the black & white tiles which represent endless
days and nights stretching into eternity. with her finger-tips touching
the life giving waters, representing the emotional state, queen Nutt
is symbolically evoking the cycle of life.
The crayfish, known as one of the early unchanging life-forms, is crawl-
ing out of the water and starting to travel the path of life. The Pathway
leads through many obstacles towards the Divine City while the Twin
Towers stand sentinel in the background. The Towers represent the
first two pillars; Bol & Jal or Black & white, Light & Dark, good & Evil.
In ancient times the twin towers or pillars signified that “This Place is
Established!” The journey is always on the pathway; on the way to the
city... this is the building and developing stage of the journey. As the
Artist comments,”going to town is what it’s all about. ”Please recognize
the dogs howling at the waning moon as a warning that the graveyard
is just at the end of the pathway at the gateway to the city!
This is to symbolize that, “only those who intend to arrive will get
there” & that many will fall away before they reach their destination
because they have squandered and wasted all their resources in riot-
ous living, having given up their dreams and aspirations. Over head in
the night sky is the constellation of Leviathan with Corvis the crow and
the golden chalice pouring out eternal life while it’s being devoured.
This is the true nature of the universe which is in a state of perpetual
re-creation.
“Of death & Transfiguration” 16”x 20” original oil study on linen
©1990: in the third portal or side three of the stabile, The Lord of
karma waits with his scythe by the entrance to the Portal, to sever
the connection to the path of life on the physical plane. In the distance
we see Charon who ferries the souls across the river Styx though the
pillars of the gateway to the Isle of the Dead. Over head the Cranes
are carrying the souls to Heaven. In clouds of glory we see the City
Divine, it is time to enter the City of god.
where one soul ends up at his/her passing to the other side of the
veil depends on their opinion of where they’ve spent their conscious
life believing they would end up at the time of their transfiguration.
The black & white tiles again symbolizing endless days & nights. The
beautiful rose arches toward the earth from whence it came. The
eye of the undying flame symbolizes the infinite Love of the Heavenly
Father for all of the whole creation on both sides of the veil, before,
during & after life.
