lis Engel, PhD, artist and author: I am born at bornholm, a small island
in Denmark and exhibited my first painting when I was 12 years old and
am autodidact as a painter but have studied drawing, somatic drawing
and contemporary art in Denmark, England, France and USA. I paint in
acryl and oil but also experiment in mixed media.
My style is expressive, poetic and imaginative connecting the figurative
and the abstract in dreamlike visions. The inspiration comes from
everyday life, nature, meditations, dreams, myths and fairy tales. I
am especially enchanted by images inviting into expanded ways of
perceiving and understanding - images that invite us to open into
the multi-dimensionality of experience as the poetics of the now.
Since 1992 I have held several exhibitions, solo exhibitions for art
associations on Sealand and solo and group exhibitions in Helsingør,
Copenhagen and Nice. I am a member of the censored artist group
kunstrunden of North Sealand and of Color Flow Spiritual Art and of
bIAM an international art project. Some of my painting can be seen at
