MARGIE HUNTER HOFFMAN
Lives and works in Toronto, Canada
w w w.mhunterhof fman.com
I was born and educated in Belfast Ireland and I am now a Canadian. I have
lived a life where I have experienced gut wrenching pain, ecstatic moments
and everything in between. I paint because I must.
La Lingua di Pittura
Margie Hunter Hoffman’s work is about paint as a means of communicating
her conscious and unconscious insights about her world. In her search to
understand and be understood she exercises a variety of mark making in her
use of paint as a language. Her work demonstrates a wide range of methods
of communication as description, narration, allegory and figuration.
The painter constructs images and creates a language out of a familiarity with
a range of painterly styles: representation, expressionism and abstraction in
their various forms. And she also explores various subjects: portraiture, still
life, landscape, dream scape, installations, the self and paint itself. Underlying
her manipulations of image and meaning is an intense desire to speak of lives
that are lived actively and relatively, inwardly and outwardly.
