Venus in Fur | Enigmas of signs, with a primordial character, evoke
a cultured two-dimensional execution of interweaving, overlapping,
hermetic visual perceptions.
On the intimate balance between line and colour, the pictorial
emotions of Maria Teresa Guala live. Abstraction and spirituality, depth
and denunciation of living, generate a spontaneous expressionism
of signs suspended between topicality and archaism in the artist’s
figuration. The forms inspired by Outsider Art evoke mysterious
entities transfigured into instinctive aesthetic devices. Enigmas of
signs, with a primordial character, evoke a cultured two-dimensional

The artist moulds the images with an impetuous narrative force,
overcoming rigidity and superstructures to flow into a free and
spontaneous dimension of the pictorial gesture. A total light pervades
the substrate and is animated by vehement gestures with a restless
and feverish, material and allegorical sign, generating synthetic and
vibrant sensitive sequences. The two-dimensional choice of the
primordial stroke goes beyond naturalistic mimesis to seek in space
the revealing essence of autonomous drives that decree the absolute
freedom of figuration. Graphic-ideative assonances emphasize an
ancestral dimension between indefinite symbolic spaces and arcane
