As a young art student, my art history tutor told me that if I was going to truly
understand myself as an artist, I would have to overcome the duplicity of
my mind, and focus my energy and attention totally on my art without being
distracted by lesser motivations. I would be required to study, not only art,
but science, geometry, ancient history and civilizations, poetry, philosophy,
eastern and western religions, and occult technologies. Embrace all life.
Meet as many people from all types of races and backgrounds as possible. He
concluded that at some point in the midst of this process, your openness itself
will eventually reveal something fundamental about yourself that will allow you
to overcome your duplicity and develop great art. This became the overriding
impulse that has guided my life. This led me to specialize in surrealism because
of its ability to conceal hidden meanings, and the enjoyment and passion I
feel for this genre. Surrealism deals with images from our subconscious, the
familiar and the unknown: that which is hidden, almost inaccessible, yet lying
just beneath the surface. It is the interface between the seen and unseen that
I truly find exciting. The juxtaposition of objects within contexts that are real
yet unreal. Impossible shapes and forms suspended above realistic landscapes.
volumetric displacement and the deliberate use of accentuated scale are
tools whereby I explore the relationship between the familiar and the surreal.
The central motifs in my digital paintings are constructed from the ground
up using 3D-based vector graphic software. With my strong background and
understanding of sculpture, my digital paintings are not flat 2-dimensional
images but 3-dimensional realities that exist fully in cyberspace.
Each painting is then printed onto canvas, using pigmented archival inks,
with no loss of resolution even at scales up to 6 meters. The conceptual
theme that underpins my work, is levitation. The very idea of flight without
the use of engines, wings, or propellers underlies a central tenant in my art.
It is the theme that holds great promise for the world. Decode the secret to
levitation and you will also unlock the door to unlimited energy. This will free
us from the archaic dependency on coal, petroleum, and nuclear energies.
These esoteric ideas are veiled and hidden behind the cloak of surrealism,
as new ideas that challenge the current methods of energy production are
dangerous. So the seed must be planted in the masses, so unfamiliar ideas
become familiar and gain a critical mass of acceptance, to bring pressure on
those who maintain, and profit from the current status quo. My art is about
a new vision of space and time. One that is positive, holistic and unified. My
images not only transport you to another place, but hint at new potentialities,
that can regenerate and heal our fragmented world. I am of single mind and
intention in communicating this. The world needs visionaries!
