new York artist Bruce Moore’s recent sculptural-wall-reliefs are an extension of his previous “found
object” work. He now applies a calculated use and investigation of plastic enclosures (bottle tops, caps, lids etc)
as his primary focus. These new plastic pieces of flotsam and jetsam from our throw away society are reassig-
ned here as pure form or building blocks depicting imagery from sci-fi architectural shapes to organic move-
ment. The “found” plastic enclosures are unpainted and mounted on painted wooden panels.
Many of the works are the study of unpredictable naturally occurring patterns. The numerous individual
plastic assemblages, or nodules, within each piece have an equidistant relationship with one another which
results in assured patterns. The harmonious relationship between these plastic forms reveals their unavoidable
positions and unpredictable yet predetermined rhythms. It is the relationship between placement, form, and
proportion that feels so natural. The plastic enclosures become more than detritus when reinterpreted as pure
color and shape. Moore’s initial impetus for this new work was the unorthodox usage of plastic objects / enclo-
sures, but through his perception of mathematical patterns we enjoy a fascination with beautiful organization.
