Abundant, multifaceted and unclassifiable,
Paul Grégoire’s entire production is not without
blurring the benchmarks of art history. Atypical,
his work evolves sharply at the crossroads of
several disciplines without ever being confined
to a specific practice or a defined ”aesthetic”.
This sustained exploration of a diversity of means
of expression (painting, sculpture, performance,
video, writing, osteology and music) gives the
impression that this artistic language is organically
shaped by contamination between the different
fields of action. The result is an impressive
corpus. Impressive, certainly in terms of the
number of works produced, but also and mainly
when considering the audacity with which the
artist approaches each of his creations. A shrewd
observer of our world, it is with a sometimes
irreverent, but always assumed frankness that Paul
Grégoire carries out his projects.

From the outset, Grégoire sees himself as an
artist-storyteller. For him, creation in all its
forms is intimately linked to the age-old act of
communicating a story. In visual art, this aspect
translates into the use of the narrative potential
of the anecdote, fable, coded message, tale or
symbolism. Sowing in his works ”little pieces
of life”, even snippets of intimacy through the
association of meaningful objects and images,
the artist forges his personal mythology. If the
compositions seem cryptic at first glance, they are
nonetheless open, positioning the viewer as the
one who must finish the story by questioning his
own referents.
