By the exhibition organised on the occasion of Rien Vörgers’ 90th
birthday, Enschede’s Mayor opened it with the following words: “Apart
from the colourful, artistic value of Rien’s oeuvre, the poetic qualities
are striking and the contents of his paintings still remain vividly valid,
urging the spectator to reflect on the need of changing society for the
better and pondering over necessary moral standards. These works,
created several decades earlier, still match the actual human condition
in a striking way, encouraging us to act within our community”.
