                                                                 The first time I saw Jose Sacal’s bronze sculpture on the Puerta Roja
                                                                 website I fell in love with his work. His human figurines seem to be
                                                                 alive with an ancient vitality that connects to Mexico’s pre-Columbian
                                                                 civilizations. True, Maestro Sacal is one of Mexico’s most recognized
                                                                 contemporary  artists,  with  over  eighty  individual  and  collective
                                                                 exhibitions around the world, and is rightly regarded as a leader in
                                                                 contemporary Mexican art. True, one can detect surrealist influence in
                                                                 some of his public artworks, such as “Torse III” installed in the Jingan
                                                                 District in Shanghai, where  he  molded gigantic human figures  into
                                                                 machine-like monuments that seem to declaim the glory of modernity.
