Lives and works in Mexico City, Mexico

The first time I saw Jose Sacal’s bronze sculpture on the Puerta Roja
website I fell in love with his work. His human figurines seem to be
alive with an ancient vitality that connects to Mexico’s pre-Columbian
civilizations. True, Maestro Sacal is one of Mexico’s most recognized
contemporary artists, with over eighty individual and collective
exhibitions around the world, and is rightly regarded as a leader in
contemporary Mexican art. True, one can detect surrealist influence in
some of his public artworks, such as “Torse III” installed in the Jingan
District in Shanghai, where he molded gigantic human figures into
machine-like monuments that seem to declaim the glory of modernity.
