From childhood he revealed innate artistic abilities: the first self-
portrait dates back to his thirteen years, while studying the old
masters, Velázquez in particular, and the Impressionists.
The Architecture career in Barcelona begins, but in the end he makes
the final decision to devote himself completely to painting.
His stay in Madrid where he is a finalist for the Rome Scholarship,
awarded by the Spanish Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. From that
moment his relationship with Italy will be continuous and intense.
Artistically, he has been trained working in the cities of Rome, Milan,
Florence and Venice, obtaining numerous awards in important
and prestigious international painting competitions and receiving
unanimous approval from audiences and critics.
Artist of solid academic formation, Ricardo Asensio during his extensive
career, in his work two periods can be distinguished: on the one hand
the figuration, which covers the beginning of his work and the second,
where he has evolved towards more abstract references. His interest in
research with new materials (works in which he uses mixed techniques
with oil, acrylic, acids, pigments and resins) getting spontaneous
creations with themes about the "cosmos" of marked expressionism. "Il
pittore-poeta dell'infinito" as defined by Italian critics. His works appear
in important public and private collections in Europe, the United States
and South America. "His artistic evolution is characterized by a total
departure from the avant-garde in vogue, to focus on his own search
