artists brings me to question my work
as a painter. I appreciate surrounding
myself with other artists who will
assess my paintings in order to further
my artistic evolution.
One could qualify my technique
as crude; indeed, I seek a rough,
unrefined finish. I work with acrylic on
canvas for it allows me to transform a
painting in accordance to a moment
of inspiration. Acrylic lets me layer
colors with transparency to create an
unpolished effect. The large format of
my canvases offers a greater visual
impact and is, I find, more compelling.
I feel there is a freedom of movement
that would not be present in a small
size painting. I much prefer working
with old worn brushes for their ragged
lines and textures. In fact, an ongoing
artistic research of mine is with
texture. I like to mix acrylic medium
and modeling paste into my paint to
create a more powerful effect.
As in any good construction, I believe
the foundation of an artwork must be
