My name is Elín Magnúsdóttir, my artist name is Ella Magg. I followed
a traditional educational path up to the age of twenty, finishing my
matriculation exam from reykjavík Junior College in 1976. I then worked
as a cook on a troller during the fishing season for a couple of years
and enjoyed life in between. I began my art studies at Myndlista- og
Handíðaskólinn in reykjavík, before moving to Enschede in Holland
to study at the AkI art academy in1979-80. In those years, painting
was not fashionable, and I was drawn towards contemporary art. I
did performance art for some time, using myself as a canvas for my
ideas. I worked for a while with the street theater Svart og Sykurlaust
in reykjavik. I began to focus more and more on people and the
things they get up to. The queen of the night, the femme fatale, was
