CREATION AS A WAY OF LIFE

Gad Ullman is a unique artist whose work combines both
public art and fine arts. He opened his studio for public
art more than twenty years ago. Those who visit his
studio in Tel-Aviv will find that the public aspect, models,
and sketches are mixed with intimate artwork.

The artist was born in Israel in 1935 to a family who had
recently emigrated from Germany. His father built their
house in the international architectural style (Bauhaus).
His mother was a kindergarten teacher.
It was a home that “came to be a mix of discipline and
diligence with playful creativity.” Throughout his life,
Ullman has used such elements from his childhood as
the ancient kitchen tools of his grandmother to scenes
from the streets of old Tel Aviv. Footsteps from those
days can be found in wall paintings and sculptures in
many public places – from universities to school yards,
                  memorial monuments to bank branches.
