         THE ARTIST ONLINE www.alfonsobatalla.com

All my shots are about desolation and usually captured
in abandoned places, mostly industrial shots. Loneliness
and grief help to isolate subject from its ordinary job and
so sense of scale is most of the time lost in favor of an
abstract keeling. The idea is to make the viewer guess
stories about those ítems and places. Who lived there,
what they did, how human relations were as if abandoned
places and things were able to remind and want to share
their remembrances with us. To make this idea stronger
human elements are absolutely absent from my work.
Pictures range from close-ups to full architectural shots.
My work is divided in up to 8 series (two of them in early
         construction):
         • Places with memory: more wide and architectural view
of abandoned or under breaking places. Many of them are
panoramic shots and sense of depth is important here.
         • The words of the Prophets: about words, signs
and numbers…what those prints on walls want to
communicate. Are there hidden messages around?
         • Portraits on abandonment: abstract close ups, pieces
that look like faces, tissues, common objects which look
         different when old and rusted.
         • Ad caelum et ad infernum: on steps and stairs, corridors,
funnels. Try to imagine where they come from and where
are they going when vanishing into the Darkness.
         • Mikrokosmos: shots of pieces, metal or Stones full
with textures which mimic aerial landscape photography
showing how the World is always replicating to itself.
         • Urbographias: like a X-Ray print of what is left from falling
buildings and printed on neighbor walls.
         • Architextures: My only work with heavy digital
manipulation to recreate unified space from architectural
         details.
•Dialogs: A series of shots composed of two or more
Pictures which talk to each other.
My work is printed digitally on di-bond and up to 6 copies
are made (plus one AP). I decided to “go public” a couple of
year ago and I have been showing my solo work in Madrid
(UBS 2008 and IB gallery in 2009), Bilbao (vanguardia 2009)
and Formentera (Can Xicu 2008 and 2009). My exhibits
have been shown in national newspaper and in some
Radio interviews to. I currently work with two galleries:
IB in Madrid and vanguardia in Bilbao.
