A metaphorical approach to the subject of Swimming Pool... quietus
has a more literal feel to it with the water element yet still remains
metaphorical for the most part. Floating pairs with the theme of
drowning. The figure dominates much of my work as it is subject matter
that we as individuals all identify with on some level. The underlying
narrative in each piece is usually quite subtle. There is a prevailing
sense of isolation and alienation within my paintings. I want the viewer
to wonder what is beyond the edges of the canvas. I periodically use
cropping to emphasize this theme and to create tension within the
works. I paint to capture the transitory nature of the world and our place
within it. The viewer should never be completely comfortable while

| QUieTUs, oil on CAnvAs 36x24 in. | 90x60 Cm. figure as a vehicle for eliciting an emotional/psychological response.
